I was born and brought up in a mining village in South Tyneside, and having spent all of my working life in the midlands and south east, retired and came home to the North East in 2022.

As an Organisational Development Director in universities, my focus was on developing leaders and managers, achieving culture shift and embedding equality, diversity and inclusion. My longstanding professional interest is conflict resolution and I am a qualified mediator and coach.

I am passionate about every child having the access and support needed to reach opportunities for growth and learning.

I am so pleased to have this opportunity to work with Clover Hill and look forward to doing the best I can to support our children, their community and our teaching staff in my role as governor.

Alan Robinson

Co-opted Governor

Term of office expiry 31/10/2025

I have recently retired after spending over 40 years working in the Energy industry at home and overseas.

I am married to Sandra, have two daughters and three grandchildren. I was born in Dunston and prior to settling in Whickham moved around with work and lived in Australia for 10 years

I have always had a strong desire to become active in the community (I was a Justice of the Peace until I retired), so when the opportunity arose to become a school governor, I put myself forward for the position.

As a governor at Clover Hill, I look forward to working with the other governors and the staff at the school to build upon the school’s excellent record.

I have many years of work life experience and my hope is that I can use this experience to make a positive contribution to the school.

I enjoy DIY and spending time with my family.

Helen Hargrave

Parent Governor

Term of office expiry 06/10/2025

My daughter attends Clover Hill and I was delighted to be elected as a Parent Governor in October 2021.

I want to be as actively involved in my daughter’s education as possible. I hope that being a Governor at the school will enable the teachers to be as focused on their jobs as possible, whilst we take away some of the administrative burden; ensuring the school is run in the best possible interests of the children and their families.

I work in a very corporate, but client-focused environment and I hope to bring much of my professional experience to this role.

Mrs S Lutynski

Mrs S Lutynski

Parent Governor

As a dedicated school governor, I bring a wealth of expertise in the financial, managerial, and mortgage sectors to the table. With a proven track record in navigating complex financial landscapes and implementing strategic managerial practices, I am committed to channelling these skills and contributing meaningfully to the growth and success of our school.

My decision to accept the role of school governor was deeply rooted in my personal investment in our school community. My eldest daughter is currently a student here and I would very much like for my youngest daughter to attend when she is old enough. Witnessing firsthand the outstanding education and nurturing environment provided by the school, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to give back and play a role in further enhancing its already excellent reputation.

I am dedicated to collaborating with fellow governors, educators, and stakeholders to support our school’s mission and vision.

I am excited about the journey ahead and look forward to working alongside you all to make a positive impact on the lives of our students and the broader school community.

Role of Governors

The governing body is responsible for both the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards. The governing body carries out its role by setting the vision for the school and then ensuring that the school works efficiently and effectively towards achieving its vision. It does this by building a thorough knowledge of the school and its community, by both supporting and constructively challenging the school, and by ensuring accountability and compliance. The governing body of the school is made up of parent governors, staff governors, Local Authority governors and co-opted governors.

Parent governor vacancies are advertised, as they arise, to all parents/carers of children at the school. If no nominations are received, governors may approach a parent/carer they believe may be interested and appoint them. Local Authority governors are nominated via Gateshead Council Cabinet. Staff governor vacancies are advertised, as they arise, to staff in school. Co-opted governors are appointed by the Governing Body and can be parents, staff, members of the community or someone from outside the community who has an interest in the school/education.

Before you decide to nominate someone (permission of the nominee must be sought), or indeed stand yourself, you may want to know a bit more about what is involved. Governors need not be experts in the field of education. What they do need is an interest in the school and in the welfare of our children and the time and willingness to get involved. The skills you have can be very useful to the governing body. Governors need what is known as ‘soft skills’ – the ability to be able to build relationships with a range of people, to be able to work as part of a team, to be able to question, and to make connections between different types of information. All governors are expected to be able to read straightforward budget reports and data on school standards.

Our governing body expects governors to

  • attend three termly meetings of the full governing body
  • sit on at least one committee and attend the meetings which are usually once a term
  • visit the school formally for monitoring purposes once a term
  • visit the school informally when available
  • commit to attend training courses, perform additional research as required

In return, our governing body commits to

  • provide you with a structured induction
  • provide access to quality training via Gateshead Council, Clerking Service
  • provide you with an experienced governor as mentor
