We read the story of Handa's Surprise.  We located the continent of Africa and the country of Kenya on a map and found out about the different animals that live there.  We discussed the pictures in the story that showed us Handa's village and compared them to where we live.  We drew and painted African animals.  We retold the story of Handa's Surprise and also made up our own stories with the animals.  We explored the fruit that Handa put in her basket and used oil pastels to draw it. We also made our own delicious fruit salad!
